Laura Brogan, LMT
Laura Breen Brogan graduated from the Downeast School of Massage in Waldoboro, Maine in 2000 with a speciality in the connection between body and mind. "Energy flows where intention goes. Recieving massage and bodywork on a regular basis aids the body in maintaining its natural balance. We become more relaxed and in sync with our world. Immunity is enhanced, stress is reduced--and it feels great!"
At 18, an encounter with Reiki, the ancient Japanese system of channeling energy through the hands for healing, had piqued Laura's curiosity in the simple healing power of touch. Since then, Laura has worked with a wide range of clients and witnessed the net positive effect massage can have for all- whether one is 8 or 80 years of age, in perfect health or experiencing injury, chronic pain, depression, or stress. The increase in blood, lymph, and energy circulation, the balancing of the nervous system, the release of adhesive scar tissue on the myofascial level, and the lengthening and loosening of muscle tissue, all set the foundation for deeper levels of targeting healing. Deeper breathing, release of muscle tension, a marked reduction of stress and increase in relaxation are the gifts of massage that are carried off the table and out into our lives.
Laura has also trained in basic Craniosacral Therapy with Upledger Institute, and Prenatal Massage with GLOW's own Amy Hopkins. In addition, she has been a practitioner of traditional Ashtanga Yoga since 2000, studying with Kimberly Dahlmann of Yoga East, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, Karen Rafferty, and many others. In 2002, she completed David Swenson's teacher training for primary series. The practices of yoga and ayurveda have opened a deeper understanding of the body, both physical and energetic, which Laura brings into her massage treatments.
A year-round surfer, Laura is also a surf instructor for Liquid Dreams Surf Shop in York, and loves sharing the energy of the ocean - especially during the weekly Ladies Surf Night at Longsands during the summer.
"As a wife and mother to my six year old twin son and daughter, I know how precious the opportunitites to nurture ourselves truly are amidst busy lives that include little free time. Time spent recieving massage in our warm and peaceful environment at GLOW produces a relaxing state that can last throughout the week. Overtime this simple, but profound, shift can change your experience of living in your body."
